Tallahassee, FL, DL Corey Gaines said after his visit to Ole Miss over the weekend that the Rebels are his leader at this juncture. Read about it inside.
Corey Gaines
turned heads during the early part of his prep career in Tallahassee, FL, as a center. Lately, however, he's drawn attention as a defensive lineman.
The Army All-American is being heavily recruited by Ole Miss, Arkansas and Auburn.
This weekend, he visited Ole Miss.
"Ole Miss is my leader, they are ahead of Arkansas now. I have already been to Arkansas but now I have to go to Auburn next weekend," said Gaines.
Corey, as polite as they come, was impressed with Ole Miss' program.
"Yes, sir, I had a great time," said Gaines. "I really liked the campus life I saw, the players and the coaches I met.
"(Freshman DT)
Justin Smith
was my host and he was great. We hit it off real well. He's a good guy," Corey stated. "I really liked how positive and hands-on the coaches are with the players at Ole Miss."
Gaines, who said he's looking for a family atmosphere due to the distance he will be from home with the three schools he is considering, said he had all his questions answered at Ole Miss.
"It's like a big family and that's a key for me. I will be a long way for home so I need to be comfortable with my surroundings," he said. "All the people were down to earth and that made me comfortable."
Corey particularly liked new DL Coach Terry Price.
"Coach Price was straight forward with me. He didn't pump me up with a bunch of promsies. He told me he was going to push me to be the best I could be," Gaines said. "I need that, we all do. I need someone pushing me to excel.
"He told me to come in this summer, do my thing and see where it leads me, but he felt like if I really worked hard I could get some early playing time."
Gaines was also impressed with the football facilities.
"They are real nice. Everything is right there to help you become a better player and student," Gaines noted. "All the football facilities are centrally located, which is convenient."
The 6-1, 275-pounder said he will make his final decision after his visit to Auburn.
"It's a big decision," Gaines closed. "I really can't lose in this deal. Ole Miss is really a good place. I can be happy at Ole Miss, I feel. Now I just want to see Auburn to get a comparison."
