"I was blown away by their campus," added Zaccheus Mason. "I
like the new dorms they are building. I just really enjoyed it. It caught my
off guard. Now I have a tough decision to make. I am stressing, but I am going
to have to make a tough decision between Tennessee and Ole Miss."
Was Mason leaning towards Tennessee before he visited Ole Miss?
"I have always been open. I just know now it is a good school. They are
both going to do big things. It is going to be a really tough decision."
What did Zaccheus' parents think of Ole Miss?
"They enjoyed the Fed Ex academic center. They just really liked it, and
they understood the academic plan that was outlined to them. Ole Miss did a
good job of laying out the four year plan to get my degree. They enjoyed the
academic side of things. They just really enjoyed it all and so did I."
The Rebs' starting tight end was Z's host.
"Gerald Harris was my player host. He was a good guy. I really did not
know what to expect. I was a little nervous because I did not know anything
about him, but after hanging out with him at his apartment the whole weekend,
I got to know him a lot better. Gerald is just a good guy. Everyone respects
him around campus. He showed me around and kind of showed me the ropes."
Scout.com's #12 rated TE had a few questions for Gerald.
'"I just asked him about the coaches and players, and I asked him about
Coach Shibest (TE coach). I just wanted to get an idea on the player's perspective
on everything. He told me that the players are all together. He said some guys
are more about the team than others, but he said you are going to get that anywhere.
He told me that it was the closest group he had every played with, and that
everyone sticks together. Coach Shibest met with us Saturday. He brought over
his whole family to meet my family. I was just shocked at how close their team
is, players and coaches."
The players at Ole Miss impressed Mason.
"They really enjoy Ole Miss and the campus and city, and in general, they
just enjoy playing for Coach Nutt. They are really excited about everything
that is going on. You can really tell they love it at Ole Miss."
What stood out the most about the trip?
"I just like how the coaches really care and shoot it straight, and they
prove it to you be the way they act towards you. They are just very honest with
you."
Mason met with the Rebel head coach before he went back home.
"He did not ask me to commit or anything. He just asked me if I was still
thinking about Ole Miss, and I told him most definitely. Coach Nutt told me
he is coming to see me this week at my house. Basically, he was just telling
me what it would be like to play under him, and that he really needed a player
with my ability at tight end."
