"Both of my parents were impressed," added Deontae Skinner
was the first time they have seen Ole Miss. They were impressed with it up there.
They were impressed with the academics and their coaches. They just liked the
overall atmosphere of the school."
Skinner got his first in depth look at Oxford's campus?
"I came up to their camp last summer, but I did not really leave their
practice fields, so I did not get a good look. My first impression was how well
I got a long with their coaches. They make you feel real good and they are strong
about you getting your education. I was real impressed with the Ole Miss coaching
staff, as a whole. I like the whole operation up there."
What stood out the most?
"The players, just being around the Ole Miss players. They were all easy
to get along with. Jason Jones
was my host. He was great. I learned that their
players are just real humble and laid back. They showed me that it is a great
place to be where you can come and get your education and win bowl games. They
just really showed me a nice time."
What did the MSU commit expecting before he came on the visit?
"It was about how I was expecting it to be. I expected it to be good because
Pat and some of the other players from around here who have been up there a
bunch told me how nice it is up there, so it really did not shock me that it
was that nice up there."
Did it make easier having a teammate (Pat Patterson
) on the trip with Skinner?
"Yea, it really did. It made it real easy having him there because I know
we can relate and being around each other made it easier to meet some new people."
Skinner still warns that Pat and himself are no package deal.
"No (laugh). People ask that me all of the time. Hey, if it just happens
that we end up at the same school, then that would be great. But we are not following
each other around or anything. We will always be teammates. We do not even really
talk about that stuff."
The 6' 1", 235 pound defender met with Coach Nutt before he left.
"He was telling me how important I am to their class and having me on their
team the next four, or even maybe five years, I could play a big role joining
their team. Coach Nutt said he wanted to help them win some bowl games. Coach
Nix is coming by the school this week."
Where does this leave his MSU commit?
"I am still committed, but after a nice weekend at Ole Miss, I am very impressed.
If I change my mind, it will be Ole Miss, but I am still committed to MSU. I will
visit them this weekend, and I will make a final decision on signing day."
Scout.com's #28 rated strong side linebacker had a chance to bring his family up to Oxford for the first time to tour the Ole Miss campus. What were the Skinner's impression?
