OL Michael Brown update
Posted Feb 2, 2009
Perhaps the most overlooked commitment from the Ole Miss fans comes from the The 6' 6", 315 pound Lexington (TX) native.
"I really do not like to do too much talking to the media," added the always personable
. "I have a lot to do around here. I have to feed the animals, do chores around the farm, and find time to keep up my grades and keep improving on the football field."
Sometimes players do get forgotten in today's "frenzy internet fans" if they are not interviewed frequently to remind them of what they are getting, but in case you forgot, the Rebels view this giant as a "franchise" quality OL, one you can build your offensive line around.
Michael was selected to the Texas All-State team as a junior/senior and picked up early offers from Illinois, Arizona, Oregon, Kansas, Houston, Baylor, and several more top programs before committing to the Rebels in July.
"When I went over there on my unofficial visit this summer, it just confirmed that Ole Miss is where I needed to be. I already knew what I thought about their staff. I just wanted to see what their campus was like and things like that. It was everything and more than what I was hoping. The decision was really a no brainier for me."
Scout.com's #72 OT also came back for the Egg Bowl.
"That was a lot of fun. I just like the way Coach Markuson prepares his linemen. They are so sound fundamentally and very aggressive. That is the way I like to play, aggressive."
Brown came back for a third time for his unofficial visit a couple weeks back.
"I brought my head coach and mother with me. It was my coach's first time to see the campus. He liked it a lot."
Not surprisingly, a man of this size had one thing on his mind when asked what stood out the most about Ole Miss during his visit.
"The food they fed us was incredible (laugh). I always have a pretty big appetite (laugh). But really, the food was really good. I ate a lot (laugh). And you know Coach Nutt is always going to stand out. He is just so honest and real. We went to his farm, and he has a lot of deer on his land. I am a big deer hunter, and I hear Mississippi has some good hunting land. I am sure I will be finding that out real soon. But really the visit was to get a little more in depth about their academics. The Fed Ex center is great. We found out about their tutoring programs and sat down with an academic advisor. She answered all of my questions, like how big the classes are and what kind of degree I would be getting."
Michael's player host had a lot in common with Brown.
is a lot like me. We just hit it off from the time we met. I like all of those guys over there. I just feel at home when I am around their players and coaches. I have an opportunity to get coached by the greatest offensive line coach in America. What better could I ask for?"
Brown reports that he will enroll for the first summer session at Ole Miss in June. He currently maintains a 3.5 Core GPA/24 ACT.
