"I committed to Alcorn State on Saturday," said Gainwell. "I like Coach Collins a lot and I have the chance to come in and play."
Robert took an official visit to the Lorman campus over the weekend with his parents. The group was in agreement that Alcorn State was a good fit.
"My family wants me to play ball, so they were happy with it," said Robert. "They want me to get my education. Education comes first and then football. They said they were going to support me no matter what I chose."
Gainwell chose the Braves over an offer from Mississippi Valley State, a school he visited officially the week before.
Robert is overjoyed to have the chance to compete at the college level and further his education.
"I am just trying to represent Yazoo City and let people know there are some good players up here," said Gainwell. I am just happy to be able to keep playing and get my education."
