Reed Gets Preferred Walk-On to VaTech

Lawrenceville, N.J., native Christian Reed is known for playing with his hair on fire and today he made the choice to take a preferred walk-on offer to Virginia Tech rather than take an offer he had from Monmouth. Reed will use his tenacity and motor on the scout team to earn a scholarship with the Hokies after red-shirting as a freshman.

Christian Reed put up the numbers at defensive end that certainly made him worthy of scholarship offers, however at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, he still has some bulk to put on at defensive end before he truly fits the position which is why he lacked the offers he could have had. The Notre Dame High School product told Scout.com this evening that he will walk on at Virginia Tech in the spring and battle for a scholarship.

“I went down there for an official visit this weekend and went in with the mindset that I wanted to learn about the school and just see how I fit in,” Reed stated. “Right when I got there I felt like it was the place for me and after meeting with my recruiting coach Charlie Wiles and the rest of the staff I knew I’d be making the right decision.”

“They are a defensive oriented school and want hard working players that are going to bust their butts on every play and I definitely fit that mold. I will be red-shirting my freshman year and just playing on the scout team and then the following year it is my time to fight for the scholarship that I want.”

Reed could have accepted a scholarship to play at Monmouth, however with his playing style and motor he is certainly the type of player that could thrive on special teams and as a rotational player at defensive end for the Hokies.
