Eddie Lacy, the 5-foot-11, 205-pound four-star running back from Dutchtown High School in Geismar, La., will be making his announcement Wednesday morning at 11 am. As the clock ticks forward, he still denies, both on and off the record, he knows which school he’ll choose.
“I’ll have the two hats out there (Tennessee and Alabama),” Lacy said. “But I have no clue who it’s going to be. For a while I really thought I was going to go to Alabama, but now I’m not sure. I don’t even know how that happened.”
He says his Jan. 30 visit to Tennessee helped the Vols gain major ground on the Crimson Tide. “The visit definitely made me look at Tennessee more,” Lacy said. “I think it was really the coaches and how cool they all were.
“Coach Lane Kiffin is a smart guy and real cool,” he said. “He’s young and easy to talk to and said that he plans on running zone plays and would use me like they did Reggie Bush at USC and I’ll be able to catch a lot of balls too.”
Another coach who made a great impression on Lacy was (assistant coach/wide receiver coach) Frank Wilson. “Coach Wilson was recruiting me for a long time,” he said.
“He recruited me when he was back at Ole Miss (when Vol assistant Ed Orgeron was coach) and when he was at Southern Miss last year,” Lacy said. “That’s why I was looking at those to schools. I like him a lot. The whole staff is great. They like to have fun and joke around and don’t take things too seriously.”
A week before visiting Knoxville, Lacy was in Tuscaloosa on Jan. 23 visiting Alabama. “That was a fun trip too,” he said. “It was very similar to the Tennessee trip. I really liked getting to meet the players.
“My host was (defensive back) Robbie Green and we got along really well and he showed me around,” Lacy said. “He said they love recruiting for Alabama because they love the competition and want to get all the best players. They were real nice and seemed very genuine.”
Lacy, ranked as the No. 24 running back in the country by Scout.com, says he also had offers from Southern Miss, Ole Miss, Florida State, Oklahoma and Oregon State, among others.
So how does Lacy plan on making a decision? “I have no idea,” he laughed. “I’ll be talking it over with my mom. It’s going to be a long night.”
He reports a 2.0 core GPA and received an 18 on the Dec. ACT. He says he’ll retake the ACT again this month.
