The Kansas Jayhawks have inked Plano, TX native, Toben Opurum, to the recruiting class of 2009.
The 6'2-225 lb fullback has a large frame with tailback speed. In Opurum, Kansas gets a very talented back who chose the Jayhawks over the 2009 National Champion, Florida Gators, and the tradition rich Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
It is important to note that Kansas lured Opurum away from those traditional powers because he is going to be given the shot to play tailback where as the other schools liked him at fullback.
In my opinion, Opurum made the right choice as he has tailback ability. He is fast, has vision, good body control, and soft hands out of the backfield and to put him solely at fullback would be to minimize his ability. Furthermore, with his athletic ability, if tailback does not work out, he can switch positions with ease. But he certainly deserves the shot to play tailback and he will get that shot in Lawrence.
Good luck Mr. Opurum.
