The first commit of the 2009 class is signed, sealed, and delivered. Deshaun Sands, the son of former Kansas running back Tony Sands, has been itching for this moment for quite sometime. Following in the steps of his father, Sands says that it is an honor to wear the Jayhawk jersey and KU has alway been a second home.
The Piper High School product, felt strong resistance from schools such as Rutgers, Louisville, and Purdue as they all wanted Sands to change his mind. But the 5-9 175 pound Sands, would not budge.
KU gets a good one in Sands as he is not only a dynamic athlete, he is and always has been a die hard Jayhawk and when you land players with that type of feeling and passion towards a program, you not only get the player but a leader and a role model that will run through a wall if the coach asks him to. These are guys that help programs win championships.
Good luck Mr. Sands.
