The Tide's Rolling into GA
In between interviews on Wednesday, Coach Saban called Gainesville High School to extend an offer to wide receive Tai-ler Jones. Jones is a 6-foot-0, 170 pound wideout that has sticky hands. He is very fluid, a strong route runner, and he plays tougher than people expect when they look at his build. Jones is now over 20 offers and Alabama joins the likes of Notre Dame, Ohio State, Miami, and UCLA. Also on Signing Day, Saban made a call to Douglass High School. Douglass is home to my top junior defensive lineman Garrison Smith. This Astro is a versatile 6-foot-3, 259 pound DL that could play inside or outside on the next level. He emerged here in the last few weeks. He has reeled in 10 offers from schools like Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Auburn, and Alabama. Then, on Thursday, Coach Saban called Coach Bob Sphire at North Gwinnett. Coach Saban asked for not one, but for two junior Bulldog offensive linemen to call him back after school and the duo did just that. JaWuan James and Austin Shepherd got on the phone with the Bama head coach and both were extended scholarships. It is the first offer from Shepherd and James is now closing in on double digitis. Virginia Tech also offered him this week and Georgia offered him last Saturday as well. Shepherd is an inside lineman at 6-foot-5, 315 pounds and James is a tackle at 6-foot-6, 285 pounds. The Crimson Tide is working hard in their neighbor state and they have offered a handful of others in Georgia as well. Jeffrey Whitaker, Markeith Ambles, Alec Ogletree, Denzel McCoy, Max Garcia, Ronald Carswell, and Brian Vogler also have early offers from the Tide. Bama is in good shape with a number of these prospects early and Scout.com will keep you posted on these UA targets all the way through signing day 2010.
