What:
The Air Seven CaliFlorida Bowl IV, presented by Ford, is demanding attention as the premiere high school football All Star Game in the country. With more than two-thirds of all Division-I college football players coming from the combined states of California and Florida, this year’s match ups appear to be the annual event’s very best. California won the inaugural match up at the Rose Bowl 21-11; but then the Florida All Stars earned a thrilling 17-14 victory in the CaliFlorida Bowl II after Florida intercepted a pass from the California quarterback on the Florida 20-yard line with just 25 seconds remaining to tie the series.
Each state was set for last year’s tiebreaker.
In a game full of big plays and big hits, Florida beat the California squad 34-24 at El Camino College in Torrance, Calif. Florida used a combination of bruising power running behind a line averaging 290 pounds and an accurate passing game from quarterbacks Gavin Dickey of Tallahassee Lincoln and Dan Shula of Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas.
This year the California players are out to even the score.
Many of these premiere athletes will be featured next year at some of the top college football powerhouses in the country – Notre Dame, Florida, Nebraska, Miami, Ohio State and Tennessee among many others. The game gives the media and fans a “sneak preview” of the college football superstars of tomorrow.
