After completing 181 of 272 passes for 3193 yards, 42 touchdowns and five interceptions as a junior, it’s easy to see why schools are so interested in Lancaster, Pa., signal caller Kyle Smith. Recently, Scout.com was able to evaluate his film and saw why he is so successful in his team’s spread offense.

Kyle Smith is hearing from programs like Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Virginia and after watching his film the one thing the 6-foot-3, 200-pound quarterback from Lancaster Catholic High School will have to show in camps this season is that he can put some more zip on his passes.

Smith has good pocket presence, feels the rush and has the feet to move around in the pocket or the mobility to take off into the open field. He throws a nice, tight spiral and is accurate, getting good ball placement and leading his receivers in their routes. He reads the field well and looks off safeties, not starting down his intended target. He lacks the velocity on his passes that he’ll need at the next level right now.
