Lewis is Explosive Off the Edge

Jerome Lewis is being recruited to play tight end, outside linebacker and defensive end and while he could certainly play any of those three positions after watching his film it looks like he’s best suited to play with his hand on the ground or as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme that needs someone to rush the passer.

Bishop Kearney High School athlete is a bit raw when looking at his film, but one thing the 6-foot-4, 225-pound defensive end shows in bunches is natural explosiveness and quickness off the snap, two things you can’t teach. Schools such as Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Alabama, North Carolina, Purdue and UCLA are recruiting him at various positions right now and offers can’t be very far off at this point.

Lewis plays in a 3-4 defense and has experience with his hand on the ground and playing in space. He has an outstanding initial burst off the snap and shows good closing speed to get to the ball. He does a good job using his hands to sift through blocks and does a good job in pursuit of the ball carrier. He is a high-motor player who also tackles well. Lewis is a bit raw, but with his excellent burst he has a big upside.
