The 6' 2", 178 pound athlete out of Itawamba AHS caught everybody's attention his sophomore season when he totaled 64 tackles and 8 interceptions.

"I played safety my sophomore season," added Asian Ruff. "I feel more comfortable back there because I get to make some big hits and you can see the field better."

The 2008 season saw his production drop when he was moved to cornerback.

"I had like 30 tackles and 5 interceptions last year. I also had 357 yards receiving."

Although Asian feels like safety is his better suited position; he believes his strengths lie in coverages.

"I think my quickness, and I have a quick back peddle. Those are my biggest strengths. I am a good tackler too."

Ruff drove 39 minutes downt he road to Ole Miss for his first Jr Day.

"They have been recruiting me since I came to their football camp last summer. Their staff is real nice. They made me feel like I was at home when I went over there. It seemed like they have some really good people over there. Coach Vaughn took me into the film room to watch some film. We went over their coverages and some of the coverages that their opponents play. I learned a lot about what it is going to be like on that level. It will take some adjustments, but everybody has to make them."

Asian's mother accompanied him on the trip and came away impressed.

"She loves Ole Miss. That is where she wants me to go to college. She likes their coaches, and she really likes Coach Vaughn. He keeps it real. She just thinks it will be a good fit for me to go to Ole Miss."

What new did Ruff learn during the trip?

"All of the freshmen get their own tutor for each class you take. That really caught my eye because I know I will need all of the help I can get. Coach Vaughn told me that it is more than playing football at Ole Miss. Their first priority is for you to get your degree. The academic building stood out the most to me, the Fed Ex center. I love it too because it is only 30 minutes from my house so I would be close to my parents."

Anymore Jr Day on tap?

"I got invited to the MSU and USM Jr Days."

The Dogs have already offered Asian a scholarship.

"I went to their 7 on 7 camp a few times, so they got a good look at me."

What are his thoughts on MSU?

"Well, Coach Mullens is a cool guy. He came to our school because of William Shumpert, and I got to meet him. He was like, we got to get this guy an offer, and they did. He is a cool guy."

What stands out the most about the Dogs?

"When I went down there last summer, I got to check out the athletic dorm with William Shumpert, and they were really nice."

Anybody else catching the All-Area (punter) attention?

"I think Alabama is pretty cool. I am going to try and go over there soon to see what it is like."

Who else is showing Asian interest?

"UAB, and I just got a letter from UCLA, and I get some letters from Duke and Georgia Tech."

Ruff is looking at a few factors to separate the schools.

"I am just looking at the overall atmosphere, the people, and the academic thing. They have to have a great staff too."
