Vista (Calif.) receiver Troy Ware (6-2, 170), has been a frequent visitor to USC over the years, his father a Trojan football player years ago.
Last weekend, Ware got to take in Junior Day at his father’s alma mater, this time as a recruit himself.
“It went pretty good. It was pretty interesting,” said Ware. “I had fun and the coaches were really cool. It was my first time there as a recruit so that was fun. It was fun seeing all the competitors and other athletes there.”
Ware said that the USC coaches talked with him about their recruiting process.
“USC said for me to go to the Rising Stars camp, and then they’ll see where I am from there,” said Ware.
In the meantime, Ware is dialoguing often with a host of schools in the West.
“I talk to Oregon, Cal, Arizona State, Arizona, UCLA, San Diego State and Stanford. Boise State asked me for highlights of my games, and invited me to their Junior Day.” said Ware. “Pretty soon, maybe the beginning of May, I think I’ll start getting most of my offers. Most coaches said they’ll talk to me in the beginning of the spring.”
Ware isn’t in a rush to make a decision, so he’s more than willing to wait the process out.
“I’ll probably wait long,” said Ware. “I’m still planning to go to other camps and schools. I’m going to Las Vegas for the 7on7 on tournament in March then the Stanford Junior Day and then UCLA on March 5.”
Ware said his early top five included USC, Oregon, Cal, UCLA and Arizona State.
“I’ve always liked SC and always wanted to go there. I pretty much grew up a Trojan. But I wouldn’t mind going to another school. We’ll see what happens,” said Ware.
Ware is hopeful he can make a decision by mid-fall.
“I’d like to commit during the season, maybe a little earlier,” said Ware. “If I get an offer this summer from a school I like, I might just take it.”
During his 2008 junior season, Ware had 28 receptions for 620 yards and scored six touchdowns.
Academically, he has a 3.0 GPA and will take the SAT in the spring.
