Every head coach will tell you that the key to a good offensive is having a good offensive line. Big guys that can move and have a mean streak are hard to find, which is why quality O-linemen get heavily recruited.
Arizona has produced some very good offensive linemen in recent years. Some names that come to mind are Kris O'Dowd (USC), Taylor Lewan (Michigan) and Kody Koebensky (ASU). Peoria Centennial's Nick Rowland is Arizona's most recruited player from the 2010 class, holding seven offers already. But Scout.com would like to introduce you to the top player from the 2011 class.
Offensive tackle Christian Westerman from Chandler Hamilton burst onto the scene last year starting every game for the 5A1 state champion Huskies. He earned 2nd team all-region accolades in a very tough Fiesta Region.
Westerman has the looks of a division-one offensive linemen right now. He stands 6-5 and weighs over 280 pounds. And he doesn't play like your typical sophomore. His father, Chris, played along the offensive line at Cal and the apple didn't fall far from the tree. The younger Westerman can run, protects the QB well and plays with a nasty streak. It is no wonder he has schools drooling all over him already.
Scout.com has learned that Westerman already holds several verbal offers. Arizona State, Arizona, Stanford, Washington and Oregon State have said that Christian will be receiving an official offer in the mail come September, 1st of 2009, the first day juniors can be officially offered.
And more are bound to do the same. Texas and Auburn have invited him to summer camp to get a look at his skills, as have most of the schools on the West Coast.
Christian's father is just trying to keep everything in perspective. He tells Scout.com, "We as a family are flattered by the early attention Christian has received. We are just trying to keep him humble and working hard. We will see what schools officially offer this September."
For your first look at what all of the hype is about, Scout.com brings you exclusive sophomore highlights of the talented Westerman. He is circled in the following footage, plays right tackle and wears #75.
