Bayou athlete adds offer from Texas A&M

The 5' 11", 190 pound star out of Newman High in New Orleans had a chance to take in Ole Miss' Jr Day on Saturday. How did his trip go?

"I went to Ole Miss' football camp last summer, so I already had a pretty good idea of what it is like over there," added Ronnie Vinson. "This trip was more about getting my mom up there so she could meet Coaches Nutt and (Kim) Dameron more than anything else. It was a last second plan to go to Ole Miss because it was held on the same day as LSU's. We went to the LSU Jr Day in January so we want to give everyone an equal chance, so we went to Ole Miss' instead."

What did the 2008 All-State selection learn on this trip that maybe he did not know from before?

"Coach Nutt is a real funny guy. Coach Nutt and my parents hit it right off the bat. They were throwing bible verses back and forth. They really liked Coach Nutt a lot."

What stood out about the trip?

"I really liked walking in the locker room and getting to see all of the player's lockers. I really like their locker room a lot. I liked the Fed Ex academic center a lot too. It is real close to their practice facilities and their stadium. They have all of the sport's facilities right there together. I guess you can say I like the spread of the campus."

What did the Ole Miss coaches say to Vinson during their meeting?

"They just told me they fell in love with me when they saw me at their camp last summer. They think I could be a factor at safety, running back or slot. They see me playing both ways. I just like the direction their program is headed. I got to see them play LSU this year, and Ole Miss put it on them pretty good. They are going to be a factor for years to come."

Where does Ole Miss now stand?

"I have always liked Ole Miss, so I say they are pretty high on my list. They are one of the schools I will probably take an official visit to."

Who else is under consideration for an official visit?

"The schools who have offered me that I will probably take an official visit to are LSU, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M. A&M just offered me. But I have also been talking to the coaches at Alabama and Southern Cal too, so I would like to take a visit to those two schools as well. Tennessee has just started recruiting me real hard too, but the only two coaches I have gotten a chance to sit down and talk to are Coaches Cooper (LSU) and Nutt (Ole Miss)."

What is going on with LSU?

"My Uncle, James Wagner, played for LSU in the early 80's. He was a kicker. And my cousin, DL Brian Maddon, played there in the early 90's. LSU is real big in my family. Also growing up in Louisiana, everybody is a LSU fan. They are one of my favorite schools, and I had a chance to sit down with Coach Cooper and talk about the future and it looks pretty good."

What about Southern Cal?

"I have been talking to Coach Ken Norton on the phone a lot. He actually got a hold of my highlight film, and he said he liked it a lot. He showed it to their head coach, and Coach Norton told me to start calling him once a week, so I do. I also have an aunt that lives in LA, so it would not be that big of a transition for me."

Alabama continues to make a move for Vinson.

"I went to their Jr Day last weekend, and I got to meet up with Coach Burton Burns. He is the RB coach that recruits my area. Coach Burns said he had just gotten in my film. He has not had a chance to show it to Coach Saban yet, but when he does, he is going to get back in touch with me about an offer. They said they probably like me at running back. I am probably going camp there this summer."

Where else will Ronnie camp at this summer?

"Alabama, LSU, Southern Cal, and maybe Ole Miss."

Who is closest to offering next?

"Alabama and maybe Tennessee because they just asked for my film. Hopefully Tennessee gets back with me. Alabama and Tennessee, one of those."

Ronnie reports a 2.9 GPA and took the SAT test for the first time in January and is waiting on the results.
