From Marietta (GA) George Walton High School, 6-3, 235-pound defensive end Brandon Burrows talked…
UGA surprises Burrows
"At the very beginning of the visit, one of the recruiting assistants took me up to Coach [Willie] Martinez' office," said Brandon Burrows. "I talked to him for a little bit and then he took me over to Coach [Mark] Richt's office." "He talked to me for a little bit too and he told me that they really liked me on film and then he wanted to go ahead and give it to me now – that is when he handed me the letter and that was the scholarship offer. Coach Richt said Georgia wanted to offer me based off the film they had seen and what kind of person I am." The news was not what Burrows expected. "It was a surprise, a big surprise when they offered me. I was not expecting it at all and I did not plan on getting an offer from them during the visit. Coach Richt told me what the offer meant to them and it meant a lot to me too. It was a big surprise and a good surprise." Burrows is a 6-foot-3, 235 pound athlete that played both offense and defense for the Walton Raiders. He was offered as a defensive prospect by the Bulldogs. "Georgia did offer me as a defensive end and I think they really liked my aggressiveness and how I am always fired up when I am playing football. I think I use my hands well at defensive end too. I like playing defense and I think that fits my aggressive style." He saw some aggressive Bulldogs practicing during his visit over the weekend. He watched the guys go to battle at his position and he thinks he could fit right in at UGA. "I think I could slide right in at Georgia at defensive end. I think I could do well in the scheme they run. They play a lot of nickel against the spread and I think I do well in that as well as playing a standard defensive end for them." "At practice I was watching their defensive ends, watching their technique, and I really liked the tempo. They practice fast, they practice with a lot of intensity, and there was a lot of activity going on out there. I really liked being out there." This visit to Athens was Burrows' second trip to the Classic City. He also attended Georgia's game vs. Alabama back in the fall and he enjoyed each visit. "The atmosphere was great when Georgia played Alabama and I had a lot of fun that time. This visit was different, but it was outstanding too. Watching practice was great, I got to tour the facilities, the dining hall was outstanding, and the coaches were great. I had a real good time while I was there." Between the visit and the offer, Georgia made a move up Burrows' list. He doesn't have an official order, but he mentioned three schools that he has a lot of interest in at this time. "Georgia is high, very high up there," he said. "I also like N.C. State a lot too. I liked them before they offered me and I had a good visit there too. I actually am from Louisiana, so I grew up an LSU fan, so I have been a fan of theirs all my life." The junior out of the Peach State now has offers from Georgia, Maryland, N.C. State, and Tulane. He is hearing from a number of other programs and he is just taking things one day at a time. "I am not going to be committing early or anything, but I know I am definitely going to be taking one of my official visits to Georgia now. I am going to take all of my visits before I commit to one school." Location, comfort level, system, depth chart, and academics were some of the things he mentioned when asked what he was looking for in a school. As a junior at Walton, he had 13 sacks at defensive end. Chad Simmons is the Recruiting Analyst for the South Region and he can be reached at ChadSimmons@Scout.com.
