"They went good," added Sharrod Golightly. "I was really impressed
with both schools."
What was Sharrod's first impression of Ole Miss?
"It was a home environment. It had a good ole southern hospitality feeling
to it. It felt like home away from home. The campus is very nice and clean. I
was impressed with that. And the facilities, see, I had never been there before
so I did not know what to expect. But the facilities really impressed me."
What was Golightly expecting from Ole Miss before he visited?
"Actually it was a journey because we got lost trying to get there. Coach
took me and Jonathan Mincey over there. None of us had ever been to Mississippi
before, so we got lost (laugh). It started off rough, but once we got down there,
I thought it would be old with old facilities, not updated. I was really impressed,
to be truthful. We went down Manning Drive and learned about all of their history.
I did not know that they had won 3 national championships before. I also did not
know their outlook on freshmen. I thought you had to put in your time before you
played, but they are not scared to play freshmen. Everything really kind of caught
me off guard. It was different than what I had anticipated."
When thinking over what stood out the most, the head coach at Ole Miss came to
mind.
"Coach Nutt, now, he really impressed me when I talked to him. He made me
feel like I should be at Ole Miss. Coach Nutt just really caught my attention.
I just like how all of the coaches genuinely like their players. But Coach Nutt
told me how he really wanted me to be a Rebel, and he felt like I fit in his program
as a player and person. He likes how I love to hit. Coach said he is not concerned
about stats, he just wants men in his program. That is what caught my attention.
They really want you to get your education over there and become a man."
The visit put the Rebels on top, for now.
"Right now they are at the top of my list, as far as what school I want to
go to. That was my second real visit besides Georgia's Jr Day and their practice
I went to yesterday. I look forward to going to Tennessee on April 18th to see
their spring game, but right now Ole Miss is on my mind."
What was Sharrod's first impression with Georgia during Jr Day?
"I was pleased with their facilities. It really caught me off guard because
that was the first campus I had been to. I really like Coach Martinez, their defensive
coordinator. I like his philosophy on how he wants me to play. He is not scared
to make mistakes. He just wants you to go all out every play."
What stood out the most about the Dawgs?
"Their Jr Day, first of all, Coach Martinez. Second would be their facilities,
and lastly it would be their education programs. If you stay at Georgia all four
years, you will get your degree, and that really stood out to me. I went back
yesterday to a practice, and I liked how they practiced. It was real intense,
but at the same time, they let you have fun. They get serious, but have fun at
the same time."
What did the Georgia coaches say to Sharrod?
"Coach Martinez said he was happy to see me and Mincey again, and he wanted
me to pay close attention to the drills. He wanted me to look at their starters
and look at their footwork and how they finish the drills. But we did not talk
about scholarships or anything like that. It was mainly about the drills."
What is going on with Tennessee?
"They just want me to come to the spring game. We have been talking a lot
lately, and things are heating up between us. I can't wait to go check it out
and see what it is all about."
Anymore future visits?
"I want to go to Vandy because they want me to come up there soon."
