Huskies in the Mix

Parkville (Md.) linebacker Josh Alaeze won’t officially list a favorite, but loves the way Connecticut coaches treat him. If an offer comes his way, Alaeze will definitely have to think long and hard about the Huskies.

In the world of college football recruiting, some coaches are all about business.

This is certainly not the case at Connecticut, as the coaching staff is making Josh Alaeze feel more like family than just another prospective student-athlete.

Alaeze will not list any favorites, but if an offer comes from the Huskies he will have to strongly consider it.

“I really like the way the UConn coaches treat me,” says Alaeze. “Whenever I talk to my recruiter Joe Moorhead, he treats me like I’m a part of his family. Whether were talking over an email or on the phone, he always makes sure to ask me about my grades and my family, always. I spoke to him after I got done with the SAT’s and called when I got my grades back. He was so excited for me it was crazy. He really showed me that he doesn’t just care about getting me to come play football for them. He is also interested in seeing me progress as a person.”

Alaeze says that it means a whole lot to him that the conversation with the Connecticut coaches is not just always about football.

“When we talk, I would say ninety-five percent of the time we are talking about life, not football. Coach (Moorhead) always asks how things are going. We will talk about everything but football. I ask him how his family is doing and what he has been up to. We have definitely started to build more of a friendship type of relationship instead of just a player to coach type. Even if I don’t go to school there I think I have made a friend for life.”

Josh has not visited the school yet but says he wants to very soon.

“I have not been up there yet, but I know I will eventually. I am excited to visit, they have a great sports tradition. The men’s basketball team is always in the tournament. The women’s basketball team just won the tournament and is by far the best program out there. The school is not really known for their football program, yet. I think they are really on the rise. I hear great things from him (Coach Moorhead) about the team, and I am hoping to try and get up there sometime soon for one of the spring practices.”

Alaeze hopes that when he does visit the school, he will have a scholarship offer to consider on the long drive back to Maryland.
