Florida OL makes commitment
Drew Gentry ended the recruiting process earlier today when he made his college commitment. He talked about how it all went down. "I committed to East Carolina today," Gentry said. "It's awesome. I'm getting a chance to fulfill a dream of playing football in college. When I was at McClay before North Florida Christian, I was working really hard. I didn't miss a beat after football season. But I was told I needed to get stronger if I wanted to play college football. I didn't play basketball this year to focus on getting stronger. A little while back, I met East Carolina assistant coach Rick Smith. I later got a handwritten letter inviting me to their Junior Day. I went up there and fell in love with the place. I sent game film when I got back to Tallahassee and a week later I had an offer in hand. This weekend I went to East Carolina's spring game and fell in love with the place. I came home and said I'm committing." Gentry, 6-foot-6 and 300 pounds, talked more about his meeting with the ECU coaches on Saturday when he was there. "I met with Coach Holt on Saturday with my father and brother," he said. "We talked about what ECU has to offer and how they'll be a great school in the coming years. I said you'll have an answer by Monday at noon. I visited Marshall on Sunday and it was a great school but it's not ECU. I called the (ECU) O-Line coach today and said I'm gonna be a Pirate. He was real excited. I'm excited to be a Pirate." Gentry had offers from East Carolina and Marshall but believes others may have been coming soon. "According to my head coach Auburn, Notre Dame, and Florida were gonna offer in the spring," he said. "But my recruiting process is done right now. ECU is a big school. They're exactly what I want in a school. Florida or Notre Dame would be great but I'll play and their city thrives around the football program. It's a small town and it's phenomenal." Inside the classroom, Gentry claims a 3.5 GPA. He was one of the top performers at the recent Scout.com Combine in Orlando.
