The 6' 3", 285 pound offensive lineman out of Brentwood Aca (TN) has started every game at tackle for the past two seasons but expects to move to another position on the collegiate level.
"Most of the colleges are telling me that I will move to guard or center," added
Wesley Sherrill
. "It does not make any difference to me. I have really played them all at one point or another."
What are Sherrill's strengths?
"I say finishing my blocks and never giving up."
Last season Brentwood Aca made it to the State Championship game but lost. In order to take it to the next level this season, the team must do one thing.
"We have to become like one unit, like a family."
One of the colleges that is recruiting Sherrill, Ole Miss, received a visit from Wesley this past Saturday to view their spring game.
"It went good. My and my dad went down there. It was a last minute thing. I called Coach Austin (at Ole Miss) Friday and let him know that I was coming. I liked it a lot. It had a home atmosphere."
When did the two parties become interested in each other?
"They first noticed me at the Montgomery game this season. Coach Austin came and scouted me. Then I sent them my highlight tape to them a month or so ago. They said they liked how mobile I am and how I finish my blocks. They are looking for centers and think I would be a good one."
Was this Wesley's first trip to Oxford?
"Yes sir. My first impression was how friendly their people are. Everyone is very nice down there, and the campus is real nice. What really stuck out to me was their 20:1 student/teacher ratio. I also liked how the football players all have tutors for each class. Everybody is always watching you to make sure you are on top of your grades."
Sherrill and his father had a one on one meeting with Coach Austin in his office before he went home.
"That was the highlight of my trip, really. We talked about SEC football and my post season and the position I might play. He told me about their depth chart, and the position I might play."
Who else is involved?
"I talk to Tennessee a lot. I also talk to Vandy, Virginia, Memphis, Auburn, and Kentucky."
Wesley also had a chance to take in several unofficial visits to Vandy this year.
"It went good. Me and my dad went to three of their football games this fall. They were the Auburn, Florida, and Tennessee games. It is kind of like the home town team. I know the atmosphere already. They introduced me to some players, and I already know
Bobby Johnson
and those guys. We have been talking for a while."
What stands out about Vandy?
"The way they turned it around and your future outside of football. If you get a degree from Vandy, you are pretty much set after school."
Any camps on the horizon this summer?
"I have two already scheduled. I am going to Ole Miss and Vandy for sure, but I also have plans to go to Tennessee and Memphis. I will add some more outside of those four as they get closer."
Stay tuned to Scout.com as we will have Wesley's video from his junior season coming in the near future.
