South Carolina gunslinger Eric McCollom has made his college decision. McCollom will play for Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

“I verbally committed to Iowa,” said quarterback Eric McCollom.

“I picked Iowa because of the success of Brad Banks and I feel that I’m the same type of quarterback that he is. I’m hoping to get a chance to play early.

“Iowa proved this year that they had one of the best football teams in the country and I want to be a part of the program.”

McCollom, a 6-foot-1, 175-pounder, from Camden, South Carolina chose the Hawkeyes over Tennessee, Maryland, Wake Forest and Duke.

McCollom is a four-year varsity starter that has thrown for 7,000 yards and 72 touchdowns the past two seasons. He was named 1st team all-state in 2002.

McCollom will visit Iowa on January 17th. He canceled his January 10th Wake Forest visit.
