"I verbally committed to Iowa," said quarterback Eric McCollom.
"I picked Iowa because of the success of Brad Banks and I feel that I'm the same type of quarterback that he is. I'm hoping to get a chance to play early.
"Iowa proved this year that they had one of the best football teams in the country and I want to be a part of the program."
McCollom, a 6-foot-1, 175-pounder, from Camden, South Carolina chose the Hawkeyes over Tennessee, Maryland, Wake Forest and Duke.
McCollom is a four-year varsity starter that has thrown for 7,000 yards and 72 touchdowns the past two seasons. He was named 1st team all-state in 2002.
McCollom will visit Iowa on January 17th. He canceled his January 10th Wake Forest visit.
