Coach Todd Watson of Foley High School has supplied Alabama with two prized recruits in 2008 and 2009, Julio Jones and D.J. Fluker respectively, hopes to continue that rich tradition of Division 1 talented players with their 2010 class. Coach Watson thinks he has at least three with a good shot at scholarship offers from top programs. The latest news with Fluker's surgery and qualifying as well.
Cornerback
Michael Holmes
, No. 26 for the Foley Lions, is 5-foot-10, 181 lbs, and runs a speedy 4.5 40. He's been receiving interest from the top in-state schools, Alabama and
Auburn
, among others.
Watson believes running back No. 12
Marcus Washington
, 6-foot-0, 201 lbs., 4.6 40, and safety No. 20 Max Woerner, 5-foot-11, 193 lbs., 4.5 40 have what it takes to earn scholarship offers with solid senior campaigns in 2009.
As for the big left tackle he's losing to graduation, Watson said Fluker is doing "real good" in his preparation for the college gridiron.
Watson reports, "D.J. had a scope on his shoulder done last Thursday. He should be fully rehabbed by the start of camp."
The arthroscopic surgery was done to repair scar tissue on a left shoulder injury
D.J. Fluker
suffered earlier in his high school career.
When asked what Fluker was measuring Watson said last time they checked he tipped the scales at 355 and was standing 6-foot-7, quite an assignment for any defensive lineman.
Watson said Fluker is on the right track to qualify to be eligible to play next season at Alabama.
"He knows what he has to have in finishing up," said Watson. "He's been working hard in the classroom and been doing real well. I think he's in good shape."
On Saturday, May 16th at Foley's Ivan Jones Stadium, Watson and the Lions will host the 2009 Spring Jamboree featuring Foley, Hoover, Fairhope, Davidson, Theodore, and Blount. Foley will take on both Blount and Hoover in the exhibition.
