This week, Renaissance High has had many schools coming in and out of its doors to talk to their group of top prospects. Cornerback Mylan Hicks, linebacker Ishmael Thomas and safety Jared Hunter are all members of the junior class at the school who are receiving college interest.
“We’ve had the usual stop by,” said assistant coach Antoine Edwards, “Michigan, Michigan State, Toledo, Purdue, Missouri, UCLA, Vanderbilt and a couple other schools. Wisconsin came by the school and Alabama, LSU and Georgia are all supposed to be coming.”
They have also taken the opportunity to check in with sophomore linebacker Lawrence Thomas, who is one of the top prospects in the Midwest for his class.
“Yeah, they’re definitely talking to all our guys and a lot of them want to see them at camp. Everyone wants to sneak a peek a Lawrence too.”
Recently the instate schools have been active. Hicks, Hunter and Lawrence Thomas were at Michigan State’s spring game last weekend and Michigan was there this week.
“Coach Dews (from Michigan) said it went pretty well [when he came to Renaissance] and everything was smooth.”
Ishmael was not in East Lansing this weekend because he was up at Northwestern for a visit with the Wildcats. The 6’4, 200-lb Thomas has five offers, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Akron, Iowa and Ball State and Edwards believes he will get more this summer.
“Everybody wants to see him at camp, because they don’t know where he projects at.”
This summer, the Renaissance kids will all camp together and while they do not completely have their schedule set yet, they do know a few destinations.
“Yeah we’re not 100% for sure yet, but we know we’re going to Michigan State, Michigan, maybe Ohio State and Notre Dame.”
Hicks has been one of the country’s hottest prospects, adding offers by the week recently. After these few weeks, with numerous schools stopping by, a few more could be on the way.
“With I really think Penn State and Alabama could be close.”
