Now that the spring football evaluation period has begun, Shaquille Richardson, the 6-1, 175-pound cornerback prospect from Los Alamitos (Calif.) High, is expecting some visitors to come by his campus. He talks about where he is in his recruiting...

Los Alamitos (Calif.) cornerback Shaquille Richardson (6-0.5, 175) is doing his part to attend as many camps and combines as he can, as he looks to land his first scholarship offer.

“Yeah I’m still waiting for my first offer, but I know a lot of schools have said they’re going to come down during the spring and watch me practice and I think I could get offers then,” said Richardson.

In the meantime, he’s maintaining dialogue with several Pac-10 schools.

“I’m hearing a lot from Washington, and have started doing more talking with Oregon and UCLA, I’m going to be at their camp and I went last summer to it,” said Richardson. One school Richardson would like to hear more from is California.

“Cal-Berkeley, that’s the one I haven’t heard anything from and I have a lot of interest in them,” said Richardson. “I just sent them up my tape though so we’ll see what happens. I’m definitely going to do the Cal camp this summer.”

Richardson said that five schools are standing out to him right now. “Oregon, Washington, Boise State, Cal and UCLA,” said Richardson. “Those are my top schools. I’m open to everyone, but those are the ones I like the most.”

Richardson is also hoping to camp at Oregon, Washington and Boise State during the summer as well as do the Scout Combine in May and the B2G Elite in June.

“I go to B2G every Sunday for training and Sunday I was doing good, but I got away from technique a little so I know I need to just keep improving,” said Richardson.

Primarily the Griffins’ lockdown corner, this fall Richardson will pair with another Richardson, Paul Richardson, as the Griffins’ two receivers.

“Most schools want me as a corner, but I’ll play receiver,” said Richardson. “I wouldn’t mind either position. I started playing corner my sophomore year, but before that I was a receiver. But with Paul and Darryl (Jenkins), we already had some good and established receivers. But now teams will double Paul so I’ll steal the catches.”

Richardson had 29 tackles and two picks as a junior.

Academically, he has a 2.8 GPA and achieved a qualifying score on the 2-part SAT but he said he’d keep taking it until he received a more satisfying score.
