Cincinnati Combine: Recruiting Updates
Fort Wayne Harding (Ind.) running back Roderick Smith is a physical specimen at 6'3, 220-lbs. A varsity starter since his freshman season and one of the leading rushers in state history, Smith gave us the full update on his recruitment. "The only schools that offered still are Iowa, Purdue, Ohio State and Michigan State," he explained, "I've been getting more interested in MSU and trying to learn more about them. One major one that's been coming up and getting more interested in me is Oklahoma." Wyoming (Ohio) defensive lineman Jibreel Black did not work out Sunday because of an injury, but that has not affected recruiting at all. He has 15 offers, including Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Cincinnati, Louisville and others. He also said Ohio State was in to see him on Friday and should know within the next couple weeks if the Buckeyes will add themselves to his offer list. The scarlet and grey also went over to Cincinnati Elder, where they checked in on tight end Alex Welch. The 6'5, 225-lber has 17 on an offer list which includes Florida State, Illinois, North Carolina, Cincinnati, Wisconsin, Michigan and others. The Buckeyes have been showing increased interest lately and Welch said he expects to know about his offer in the near future, possibly as soon as next week. Indianapolis Pike WR Dyjuan Lewis :: Lewis said the schools who have been recruiting him the hardest are Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan State and he recently received an offer from South Carolina. Of the schools who have not offered, Oregon, Florida and Oklahoma are showing the most interest. He attended spring games at Louisville, Cincinnati and Purdue. Livonia Stevenson (Mich.) RB Austin White :: Wisconsin, Ball state, Cincinnati, Missouri, Purdue, Michigan and Michigan State all came to the school last week. Missouri will look at the tape and make a decision on an offer, they had not seen the tape previously. This summer, he is still planning on heading south and visiting LSU, Florida State and Georgia. Louisville Seneca QB Damarcus Smith :: This sophomore (class of 2011) gun slinger picked up another verbal offer last week when Purdue extended one. He now has five, with the others being Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville and Western Kentucky. Fishers (Ind.) QB Alex Hines :: "Friday I talked to the coach from Bowling Green for about 25 minutes on the phone. The coach from Penn has been in the school. I've heard from Central Michigan, Ball State and I went down to Indiana for their spring game. When I went down to Charlotte, I visited Davidson and met with their coaches too." Fishers (Ind.) OL Tyler Kiel – "I went to Toledo's spring practice, Bowling Green's spring practice and Ohio U's spring practice. It was me and another guy at Bowling Green, so I had lot of 1-1 time with O-Line coach. At Bowling Green, I had 1-1 time with D-line coach." Madison Heights Madison (Mich.) WR/CB Valdez Showers :: This 2011 prospect transferred and missed the season last year as a result, but has done well at several camp stops this year. He has a brother at Central Michigan, Val Showers and the Chippewas are one of the schools recruiting him along with Michigan and Michigan state. Madison Heights Madison (Mich.) LB Davonte Snyder :: 2011 ‘backer has heard from Toledo, Michigan, Michigan State and Iowa. Madison Heights Madison (Mich.) LB Percy Johnson :: 2011 linebacker/running back was at Michigan's spring game and was invited to Cincinnati's, but did not attend. He says two schools he is looking at are Miami (Fl) and Arizona State. Upper Arlington (Ohio) OL John Blevins :: Blevins has received a lot of interest since sending out his tapes. He has gone to a spring practice at Auburn, Bowling Green's junior day and an unofficial visit to Miami-Ohio. He also has heard from Northwestern and Georgia Tech. Fort Wayne South Side CB Greg Johnson :: "I went to Purdue's spring game and I went to a spring practice up at Michigan State. Purdue surprised me, because I thought there wasn't going to be too much out there, but I like facilities, like the coaching staff, and like the way they run things out there." Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger QB Wade Markley :: Markley is tall (6'4) and talented, but did not start last season. As a result, he has sent out a tape of the games he appeared in as well as 7-7 events. He has visited Northern Illinois, Bowling Green and Michigan State. He will camp this summer at Indiana, Purdue and Ball State. Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger S Landon Feichter :: Feichter said Purdue is showing him the most interest right now and he is also being recruited by Ball State, Indiana and Northern Illinois. Zionsville (Ind.) FB/LB Jack Denton :: The 6'2, 235-lb bruiser has been to spring practices at Miami-Ohio, Indiana and Purdue, spring games at Ball State and Kentucky. Fort Wayne Concordia DB Daniel Fitzpatrick :: Has interest from Ball State, Toledo, Indiana and Tennessee State. Toledo and Ball State would like to see him at camp before offering. Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger DE Tony Springmann :: This 6'8, 230-lb sophomore had a great first varsity season, recording nine sacks and 86 tackles. He is being recruited by Ohio State, Notre Dame and Purdue and has a basketball offer from Indiana State. Detroit Cass Tech CB Delonte Hollowell :: This 2011 product had a great camp in Cincinnati and is hearing from Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Central Michigan, Ohio State, Florida and Miami-FL. As a sophomore, he had six interceptions and 53 tackles. Hilliard-Davidson (Ohio) RB Rico Butler :: Sophomore back ran a 4.49 on Sunday and has received early interest from Cincinnati, Colorado and Pittsburgh. West Bloomfield (Mich.) LB Lawrence Brown :: He has heard from Indiana, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green. CMU and EMU both came to the school and told Brown they would attend games in the fall. West Bloomfield (Mich.) LB Vincent Simpson :: Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan are recruiting him and he will camp at Ball State and CMU. Perry County (Tenn) OT Ethan Belasic :: This 6'5, 290-lb sophomore has gotten mail from Tennessee, and says North Carolina will be up at one of his school's practices. He plans on attending camp in Knoxville this summer. Columbus East (Ind.) DB Connor Miller :: Is being recruited by Iowa State, Northern Illinois and Ivy League schools like Brown and Princeton. Indianapolis Ben Davis CB Jeffery Garrett :: Arguably the best cornerback in attendance on Sunday, Garrett has one offer from Akron and believes Central Michigan is close to offering. He will camp and Indiana, Ball State and Louisville this summer. Inkster (Mich.) WR/CB Vorheese Zanders :: Zanders also had a great day on Sunday. He is being recruited by Western Michigan, Toledo, Michigan State, Michigan and Central Michigan. Inkster (Mich.) DB/RB Daniel Lindsey :: Lindsey and his twin brother, Nathan Lindsey, are being recruited by Indiana, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Bowling Green, Michigan and Michigan State. They are being recruited as athletes on both sides of the ball.
