Johnson excited about spring practice

Oak Grove is gearing up for perhaps its most anticpated season in school history, as many have tabbed the Warriors the team to beat out of the south half of the state of Mississippi.

"We are just glad to get this thing started," added Robert Johnson, who is one of four players off of his squad that has been offered by a BCS school. "It is going real good. We are getting some new formation put in. They have me and Steve McNair at the slot. Jay is starting at running back, and then we put me and Steve in motion and run the ball. Then sometimes we do the opposite. It is keeping everybody off balance. I love it. I really think our offense is going to be exciting to watch next year."

What improvements has the 6' 0 1/2", 205 pound receiver receiver seen in his game this spring?

"I think I really improved on getting off the line quicker. That was one of my weaknesses. I have also been working on catching it with my hands and my routes."

A few colleges have come down to Hattiesburg to scout the All-State performer.

"We have had a couple come down from USM (offer). It seems like they have come to our camp everyday. Tulsa (offer) has been by here. Coach Turner for MSU (offer) came. He was looking more at DLVince Taylor. They offered him after practice, so that was good. Coach Dickerson from Ole Miss (offer) came down too. He was actually here for our first practice. I am sure there will be some more colleges come by next week."

A new school has also come into the picture.

"Coach Jay Johnson from Louisville called me the other night. He told me to make sure I stay on my books and how great their campus is. He was telling me about their new facilities and the new addition they are putting on their stadium. He had a conversation with my mother too."

When did Louisville start making contact?

"Right before spring practice started. He came to our school, and we shook hands, and then he started sending me hand written letters."

Louisville close to offering?

"I think so. I would like the offer, and I think they will pretty soon."

What did Coach Dickerson from Ole Miss have to say?

"I called him two days before practice started. He said he was coming to my first practice, and he showed up, so he told me that he kept his word. It was good seeing him. I do not know how long it has been since I saw him last, but I call him every week. He was the first coach to come scout me last year, and they were the first school to recruit me, so we have always had that bond."

What did Coach Turner at MSU say?

"He said it was good to see us and all of that. He really did not stay that long. They offered Vince Taylor, and that is who he was really watching. They had already offered the rest of us (Jay Hughes, Steve McNair)."

Which colleges does Robert personally keep in phone contact with?

"Ole Miss, MSU, and USM."

Any camp plans in concrete?

"I know for sure I will go to all three of the instate schools, and I am going to get my dad or mother to take me to Louisville. I want to go to at least one out of state camp."
