The defensive leader for offers out West just may well be Harbor City
(Calif.) Narbonne safety Sean Parker.
This week was a big week for Parker, who picked up three offers, all from the
ACC.
Georgia Tech got things started than North Carolina followed suit a day
later. Finally on Wednesday, Miami threw their name in the ring, for both
Parker and teammate Melvin Davis, a running back committed to Washington.
"Sean received his 28th offer from the Miami Hurricanes," said Narbonne
recruiting coordinator Byron Moore Sr. "Melvin Davis (a Washington
commit), received his fourth offer too."
The Canes offer made a big impression on them both.
"They are very happy about their offers from Miami, a program with a lot of good football history and tradition,"
said Moore. "They look forward to getting to know the coaches and program. Miami flew
out to watch practice and took there highlight film and game film back and the head coach
(Randy Shannon) loved it."
The biggest news out West was the decommitment of Cassius Marsh from
California.
The #3-ranked defensive tackle out of Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks
Christian, Marsh had committed to the Golden Bears in April, but decided to open
things back up.
I had been thinking about a lot of other schools outside of California because I haven’t really checked any of them out,” Marsh
told SCPlaybook.com. “A lot of schools outside of California were showing interest but weren’t offering because they didn’t want to offer someone that was already committed, so I felt that I needed to free myself up and continue the recruiting process and check out some other schools. I am pretty close with the Cal football team and coaching staff, and I just didn’t want to be dishonest with them, so I just told them the truth.”
Marsh said Cal was still the leader for his services but he's also
considering LSU, Tennessee, Oklahoma and USC.
"They are still my No.1 but I just need to checkout some other schools because I have only really seen USC, UCLA and Cal,” he said. “There is so much more out there and I haven’t gotten a chance to check it out. The schools that I have developed a new interest for are LSU, Oklahoma, Florida, Florida State and Tennessee, which is a school that I have already been interested in. Those are just some schools that I am looking at outside of California."
Stanford's week has been busy, with four commits coming in the last week.
Yet it wasn't until their 13th commit that the Cardinal landed a prospect
from instate. That turned out to be Huntington Beach (Calif.) Edison
linebacker Jordan Zumalt, who did the honors at Stanford's Junior Day.
"Junior Day was amazing," said Zumwalt. "I committed there to Stanford. I want Stanford to be a part of my next five years."
One of the more prolific tacklers in the state, Zumwalt had 111 tackles, eight knockdowns, seven blocked punts, four forced fumbles, three sacks and two interceptions
for the Chargers.
"The campus was awesome, the coaches are awesome," said Zumwalt. "I feel like I fit in perfectly and also the degree there is great."
