4-Star lineman in no hurry

One of the more dynamic pass rushers in the State of Mississippi has seen the recruiting wars up close before when his step brother, Quentin Groves, was one of the more highly recruited players in the country coming out of high school.

It should come as no surprise that Thompson sees the recruiting process differently than most.

"I remember having all of the coaches coming into my living room when I was in 6th and 7th grade," added Carlos Thompson. "I even went on a lot of visits with Quentin when he was being recruited. My dad is a coach too, so he tells me what to look out for (in the recruiting process). I still ask Quentin for guidance. He helps me out a lot."

Spring practice is now over and the 6' 5", 225 pound rangy defensive end believes his team became stronger as a whole and so did he.

"It went pretty well. We got better and played stronger and more physical. I got better with my hands too. I just wanted to go out there and have fun and see where we were as a team. I found out as a team that we looked pretty good. We are young, but we are strong and aggressive."

Thompson picked up right where he left off last season in the jamboree.

"I had 4 tackles and 3 sacks. It was a good jamboree. We had teams from all over the Delta here."

Any scouts come to the jamboree?

"I didn't get a chance to see all of the colleges that came by. I did see a coach from MSU though. There were more. I just did not pay attention."

Any phone calls this month?

"Baylor and Vandy are really the main coaches that I have been talking to."

Any new offers?

"Memphis is my newest offer. The other offers are still the same, Ole Miss, MSU, USM, Baylor, and Ole Miss?

What is going on with Ole Miss and MSU?

"About the same. I have been in contact with Ole Miss, nothing much, mostly letters. MSU, nothing really either. They are still writing every now and then too."

What about Baylor?

"We have been talking about going down there and seeing their college this summer. Their coaches just tell me to keep my grades up and keep working hard."

And Vandy?

"Just about the same thing as Baylor. They want to get me up there for a visit."

What is going on with Auburn, the school that his stepbrother Quentin Groves attended.

"Nothing really. They said they would offer me too, but other than that, nothing really. They told me they are going to offer me when I get over there this summer."

Thompson is playing it close to the vest when naming his favorites.

"I mean, I can't even say right now. The colleges that have offered me are the ones that I like."

Any camp plans in concrete?

"I might go to Ole Miss. I do not know too much right now. I am just playing it by ear."
