Pittsburgh Looking West
Bryan Bennett, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound three-star quarterback from Crespi Carmelite High School in Encino, Calif., now has scholarship offers from Pittsburgh, Wyoming, Utah State and New Mexico State and hopes to pick up a few more this summer. Bennett, ranked as the No. 24 quarterback in the country by Scout.com, favors Oregon, Washington, Pittsburgh, Arizona State and UCLA. He now says his top three are the Ducks, Huskies and Panthers. "I'm thankful for the offers I have," Bennett said. "But I hope I can get some more this summer or during the season. I'll be going on some visits and we'll see what happens." He plans on visiting both Oregon and Washington this summer. "I'll talk to the coaches and see," he said. "I'll only go if I feel like I'll realistically get an offer. "Washington told me they've already offered three quarterbacks," he said. "But they're not going to be waiting too long on them. They said they should know by the end of June if either of them are going to commit or not. I'm the next one on their list. "Oregon has been to my practice and they've evaluated me a bit," he said. "They really want me to come to their camp so that all the coaches can see me. I think there's definitely a potential offer there." During June 16-18, Bennett will be visiting Pittsburgh for the first time for their camp. He says the Panthers are recruiting him the hardest. "That's the biggest offer I've got," he said. "They seem like a great program and I've heard it's a nice city. "I'm excited to go out there and see what it's like," he said. "I just want to meet all the coaches and see if I could realistically see myself go there." Bennett admits he'd prefer to stay on the West Coast, but is not ruling out anyone. "It would be nice to stay on the West Coast," he said. "But this is like a business. They are paying for my school and if I can go somewhere where they'll help me reach my main goal, which is the NFL, then I'll go anywhere." He says he grew up following USC, but admits the Trojans are not recruiting him. Their intra-city rival, UCLA, however is recruiting him. "They've been to my school and I have a few who friends who go there," Bennett said. "I've heard they do seem to like me and will be following me closely." Another Pac-10 school that is showing Bennett some interest is Arizona State. "I've been communicating with (offensive coordinator) coach Rich Olson," he said. "We email regularly and they are still evaluating me." Bennett was at the Scout.com combine in Los Angeles on May 30. "It was good," he said. "There were a lot of great players there and big-time recruits. It was fun to see everyone competing." Who stood out in Bennett's mind? "I think from the receivers, Paul Richardson, Kenny Stills and Kenneth Scott looked real good," he said. "Running back Brennan Clay was also pretty impressive." Bennett reports a 2.9 core GPA and a 1200 SAT (three-part).
