Staying Busy with Camps

Brett Nottingham

Danville (Calif.) Monte Vista quarterback Brett Nottingham has a few more plans to camp this month as he looks to land more offers...

Danville (Calif.) Monte Vista quarterback Brett Nottingham was one of a host of quarterbacks at UCLA last weekend to throw at the Bruins' 1-Day Camp.

No stranger to the Westwood campus, both his sisters went to UCLA, it was Nottingham's first chance to actually throw and camp in Westwood.

"I thought it went pretty well," said Nottingham. "I threw it pretty well and I think the coaches liked me. I didn't get an offer but I had a lot of time to talk with Coach (Norm) Chow and Coach (Rick) Neuheisel and they said some good things."

Nottingham said he was keenly aware of the Bruins' staff process in recruiting a quarterback.

"They are approaching the quarterback situation with care and I'm right on the bubble," said Nottingham. "They mentioned me coming back down for their 3-Day Camp. I was thinking that could be a good idea, but I need to see what's going on with other camps."

Next week, Nottingham will be in Boulder, camping at Colorado, and then he's planning to camp at USC later this month for the Rising Stars Camp.

San Diego State became the fourth school to offer Nottingham, doing so last week, with offensive coordinator Al Borges doing the offering.

"San Diego State happened last Tuesday," said Nottingham. "I talked with Coach Borges for a long time and he is so knowledgeable. I was planning on going to San Diego State's camp but then they offered. But I still definitely want to throw for San Diego State."

Conversations with Colorado have also began to pick up.

"The offensive coordinator from Colorado (Erik Kiesau), has said some cool things and they have a camp on the 15th so I think I'm going to go to that. He came to my school and has been e-mailing me a lot and the situation looks pretty legit."

Nottingham's other offers are from Nevada, Wyoming and UC Davis.

An excellent student, Nottingham is carrying a 4.0 GPA and scoring a 1740 on the SAT in March.

He was an all-camp selection at the Badger/Scout 7on7 Passing Tournament and then last month starred at both the Elite 11 and the Nike Camp in the Bay Area.

As a 2008 junior, Nottingham threw for over 3,500 yards and 39 touchdowns.
