Rutgers Stand Out to Fonti

Wayne Hills High School has a mammoth lineman in Chris Fonti this year that is definitely going places next season. Over the summer he may be adding to the five offers he already has in hand, however right now he says Rutgers is a big ahead of the pack.

Chris Fonti, a 6-foot-7, 310-pound offensive tackle from Wayne Hills High School in Wayne, N.J., is holding five scholarship offers and says the home-state Scarlet Knights are standing out right now.

“Recruiting is going pretty good for me, although it slowed down after May,” Fonti said. “I’m going to the Rutgers camp this weekend and I’ll probably go to camp at Pittsburgh later this summer. I have offers from Rutgers, Louisville, East Carolina, Florida International and Delaware right now.”

“Rutgers does stand out to me right now,” Fonti explained. “I like that they’re so close to home and the coaching staff is great. Coach Kyle Flood is a great guy. I like the way he teaches players. He is very hands on with you and communicates in a way that is easy to understand and then execute.”

“Illinois told me that they may be offering in the next couple of weeks, so we’ll see how that goes, but that’s pretty much it. Pittsburgh has just been telling me they want me to come out and see the campus and meet with the coaching staff.”

Fonti says that his main priorities are education and how well he gets along with the players and coaches at a prospective university. Last season he was second-team All-County and he currently carries a 2.85 GPA. Fonti scored a 1590 on his three-part SAT and a 1120 on his two-part.
