Pat Swilling, Jr., has more options than most when it comes to playing sports in college. Not only…
Pat Swilling adds another SEC offer
"That was a lot of fun growing up gong to those games," stated a reminiscing Pat Swilling (Jr). "I use to love going into the locker room when I was just a baby and being around my dad's teammates. That was the most fun of all." Pat (Jr) was blessed with good genes which has helped him succeed not only in football but also basketball. "I have scholarship offers in basketball from LSU, Ga Tech, Southern Cal, Florida, and all of the other Louisiana schools. I averaged 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists at the one and two (positions)." What are Swilling's strengths on the hardcourt? "Probably shooting and getting to the goal and things like that. Probably offensively more than anything else." On the gridiron, the younger Pat collected 7 interceptions and returned three of them for touchdowns while manning the cornerback position. He also had 12 pass breakups. "I think I had a good year. We went undefeated in the regular season and lost in the second round. Nobody had a passing TD against us all year and we had 5 shutouts." What does Pat do best at CB? "I think I use my body strength to jam them at the line of scrimmage. I also have great quickness and awareness for the ball when the ball is in the air. Right now I am just working on getting even faster and quicker. I would like to stay at CB if at all possible." There were plenty of college football scouts on hand during spring practices? "LSU, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Vandy, Alabama, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Auburn, Colorado, Tulane, La Tech, Oregon, and Florida all came by." Any scholarship offers? "LSU, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Colorado, Tennessee, Vandy, Alabama, Virginia, Tulsa, and Tulane have offered me in football." Who was the latest offer? "Ole Miss offered me a few days ago. I was talking to Coach Dameron, and he told me how impressed he was with me when he scouted my spring game. He asked me who all had offered me, and he told me I could add Ole Miss to that list. Then a few days ago, I got the offer in the mail." What is Swilling's knowledge of Ole Miss? "They are in the SEC, and it is not that far from home. Coach Nutt is there now, and he has them playing some ball. They did well in the SEC last year, and they are always beating good teams and playing on TV. I also know they have a whole bunch of players from New Orleans on their team and had two first round picks last year. They are getting a lot of good players up there." What is going on with LSU? "They offered me at the beginning of the spring, and I have been talking to them a lot. They are also recruiting me in basketball too. My dad has been talking to their coaches a lot. They are going to let me play both sports if I go there." What stands out about LSU? "Well, everybody likes LSU around here. It is the hometown school. I know a lot of people who go there. It is close to my family so it is hard not to like LSU." Which colleges are coming after Pat the hardest? "Ole Miss just started contacting me so they are new. LSU, Vandy, Tennessee, and Virginia, and I am still talking to Georgia Tech a lot. That is where my dad played. Auburn has started getting on my hard, but nobody is showing me more interest than the other one. They are all just sending me a whole bunch of letters. I have not sat down and narrowed it down to a Top 5 or 10 or anything like that. I am still trying to figure out if I am going to play football or basketball. I am going to decide that by the end of the summer." Which sport does Swilling believe he is best at? "I am not really sure. It is hard to tell because I like both sports a lot. I have not really thought about it. I am just taking it all in stride. I have some great options out there for both sports. I can not go wrong. We will just have to wait and see."
