A Look Back at Ocean Springs

This past weekend I had the pleasure of being involved with another great event in Mississippi that showcased some of the best talent that state has to offer. After having the chance to see many of the region's top players from field level, it is clear the Coast is back!

It was an extremely hot day on Saturday with gauges reading over 100 degrees at field level. The conditions did very little to effect some individuals.

Southern Miss commitment Furious Bradley had the fastest time in the 40 yard dash turning in a 4.45.

The Harrison Central standout was also on of the top performers in the one-on-ones. The Golden Eagles have built a program on some under recruited talent from the Gulf Coast and Bradley certainly fits that mold. He is a prospect Southern Miss fans will be happy to have committed early.

A pair of juniors tied for second best in the 40 with times of 4.47. Pascagoula's Senquez Golson and Moss Point Tiger Latterrance Williams both had strong showings.

Golson is a prospect college recruiters will be taking a long look at this fall. Senquez was in the top five of three testing categories including a camp best 4.23 in the shuttle. To top out all off he broad jumped over nine feet.

Another junior who burst onto the scene was North Pike running back Jalen Adams. A 4.57 in the 40 and a 10 foot broad jump certainly shows that Adams has the raw materials to be a fine prospect.

Teammate Tonnie Collins bested Adams in both events. The talented wideout is one to keep an eye on. He has the speed to be a factor this year for Coach Jamie Everett's Jaguars.

Ocean Springs quarterback Sam Noblin turned in a camp best 7.07 in the L Cone and finished 4th with a 4.37 in the shuttle. Noblin has the athleticism to do more than just throw passes, but he did well in the one-on-ones especially on passes 20 yards and under. There were some communication issues on some of the deeper routes, but Sam has the arm strength to get it there.

Harrison Central running back Jarius Washington led all participants with a 10'9'' broad jump. He was also among the leaders in the 40 with a 4.53 time.

Perhaps the top quarterback in passing drills was Washington's classmate and teammate Aerion Williams. This was the third time I have been able to see Williams dating back to last season.

Aerion has a lot of the skills needs to play the position on the next level, but a lot of schools have been quick to slap the athlete label on him.

He could play receiver, safety or maybe even weakside linebacker in the right system, but he is still an intriguing prospect at quarterback. He has a magnetic personality that the other players respond to. Someone is going to win with Williams.

Marquis Hosey certainly looks the part and he continues to make noise on the summer camp circuit. He ran 4.53 in the 40 and 4.44 in the shuttle. His lateral movement is not as good as it could be, but his speed and strength are more than enough to make him a good option at running back.

Perhaps the player who made the biggest jump in my eyes was George County standout R.J. Spivery. Spivery ran a surprising 4.52 in the 40 and was more than eager to get his reps in at receiver. He has some nice ball skills and he really competes for the ball when it is thrown in his direction.

Complete testing results will post next Monday.
