Malcolm Johnson grabs SEC offer
"I was offered by Mississippi State on Friday," said Malcolm Johnson. "I have a couple of schools looking at me. I have been receiving interest from Mississippi State, Florida State, Alabama, Kentucky, Troy and Jacksonville State." "Mississippi State sent the offer through the mail to my house. I was very excited and appreciative of the offer. I was kind of surprised." "I have been to a couple of 7-on-7 camps. That is where I started to get noticed. I went down to Mississippi State and to Alabama." "The Mississippi State coaches really liked me. They were all talking about that receiver from Northridge. I thought I did pretty well at Alabama as well." The 6-foot-2, 200-pound athlete has a couple of out-of-state schools as favorites. "My favorites right now are Florida State and Mississippi State," Johnson said. "I like Georgia as well, but they haven't shown much interest in me." "I have been down to Florida State a couple of times. I went down for Junior Day. I like the campus and facilities. They have a really good Business school. I have a good relationship with the wide receivers coach [Lawrence Dawsey]." "I have also been over to Mississippi State a couple of times. I like their facilities a lot. It's close to home. I am from Tuscaloosa, but I want to leave the state. Mississippi State is close, but it's out of state." Johnson made 41 catches for 492 yards and nine touchdowns during the 2008 season. He was named West Alabama All-Star during his sophomore and junior seasons. "I have good hands," Johnson said. "My size is big. I can run a slant and use my body. I played basketball my whole life. I can go jump and get the ball." "I like to use my size and boxing out abilities. I can box out the cornerbacks. It's just me and the ball. If I can improve on anything it would be my speed. I would like to improve my route running."
