In-state leaders for Matthew Wells

The 6' 2", 205 pound running back/linebacker out of Lawrence County is one of the more coveted players inside the Magnolia state, and it looks like he will stay within the borders. Now the only question remains, will it be at Ole Miss or MSU? To learn more, read inside.

"I am hearing pretty much from the same schools," added Matthew Wells. "It is still Ole Miss, MSU, Stanford, and Tennessee. The schools who have offered me, but the instate schools are recruiting me the most."

Mattew had a chance to participate with his team at the MSU 7 on 7 camp and his time spent on the Bulldog campus was a positive experience.

"It went like real good. I think I did real good. I was real loose and caught some passes and played real good on offense and defense during the games."

What was the message from the MSU coaches?

"They said I did real good. They did not say too much. It has been a while ago, so I do not remember exactly what they said. They just basically told me that I can be an impact player up there."

Where does Wells camp at next?

"Probably Ole Miss in late July but that is it. I am just focusing on conditioning and working out with my teammates, so I am not going to a bunch of camps this summer. MSU and Ole Miss will probably be it for me."

What is going on with Ole Miss?

"I talk to them pretty much regularly. Nothing has really changed. I am going to try and make it to the senior camp. I like their coaches a lot. Coach Nutt is a cool person, and all the rest of their coaches seem pretty cool too. I like some of the players there too. They seem to be coached pretty well."

Has Stanford been in contact recently?

"I am really getting nothing but letters from them. Not too much."

And Tennessee?

"Mostly the same thing as Stanford. They send me a bunch of letters, but I am not talking to them like I am with MSU and Ole Miss."

Is it fair to say that MSU and Ole Miss are the teams to beat right now?

"Yes, I think that is fair."

Which schools has Wells had a chance to visit so far?

"I have been to Ole Miss and MSU a couple of times, and I have been to LSU too."

Did any one campus give him that "homey" feeling?

"Kind of the two instate schools."

What is going to separate the instate schools when it comes decision time?

"I am trying to go somewhere I can play quickly and get my name out there. I also want to be comfortable with their coaches and be in a good academic program."

Wells spoke highly of the Ole Miss coaches but the Dogs also have a staff that he is fond.

"A lot of people ask me if I am worried about winning if I were to go to MSU, but I have spoken to Coach Mullen a few times, and he seems to know what he is doing. I think he is going to win a couple of years there. I am going to watch them this fall and see which direction they are going. But I really like their coaches a lot too."

Matthew's junior season saw him rush for over 1, 300 yards and 29 TD's while sharing the ball with Army All-American Kendrick Hardy.
