One player looking to turn a few heads last Friday at Ohio State was Brendan Carozzoni (Cleveland/Ohio/St. Ignatius) a 6-foot-4, 220-pound tight end.
With the Buckeyes still looking to seal a tight end for the Class of 2010 Carozzoni looked to impress.
“I thought Id did pretty well from what the coaches said after camp,” Carozzoni told Scout.com “It was fun to come out here and compete and see what happens.”
With the Buckeyes still looking for a tight end did Carozzoni get any impression he’d have a chance?
“Yea, the coaches said they are going pretty slow on the tight end position and right now I’m willing to wait a while.”
With several offers has anyone pulled out in front?
“Right now I’ve got offers from several schools that were here at camp along with Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Ball State, Marshall and Buffalo. Right now I don’t have a favorite.”
One person pulling for Brendan to earn an offer from the Buckeyes is current Ohio State verbal commitment Scott McVey. The linebacker has no problem giving his teammate a hard time.
“Scott is a clown and still needs to clean up his act,” a laughing Carozzoni joked while giving McVey a jab. “But he’s a real good guy.”
As Ohio’s “Big School” champion the powerhouse program from Northeast Ohio has some work to do. But Carozzoni is confident things will go well this fall.
“We have some big shoes to fill but we always seem to reload at Ignatius. We’ve had a lot of guys coming down this summer and working hard and I feel we look pretty good so far.”
While he’s not sure he’ll earn a Buckeyes offer Brendan knows what it would mean.
“I grew up a fan and playing at Ohio State would really be fun. We’ll have to see what happens.”
As for a timeline to end his recruiting the tight end has some thoughts but is also open.
“I’m thinking about committing before the season, but we’ll have to see what happens here in the next couple of weeks.”
One thing for sure, Brendan Carozzoni is not looking to take a back seat to the other top tight end talents in Ohio this year.
