Georgia Military College is home to All-American safety Jakar Hamilton for now, but he will either be in Tuscaloosa or Athens this time next year.
Hamilton is a 6-foot-2, 195 pound safety that has been timed in the 40 yard dash at sub 4.4 seconds on more than one occasion. He made 86 tackles and picked off 8 passes in 2008 during his first season at safety. He has grown up playing wide receiver, but the move to safety went extremely well in 2008.
He is now known as ‘The Hitman’ because of the way he strikes his opponents, so he has that defensive mentality.
Offers rolled in earlier this spring for Hamilton and he gave thought to many different schools before narrowing his list down to Alabama and Georgia.
He will choose the Crimson Tide or Bulldogs Saturday June 11 at Wild Wings Café in Augusta, Ga. around noon ET.
When asked what he liked about his two finalists, here is what he had to say about each.
Alabama: “Alabama has a great head coach in Nick Saban and he knows a lot about my position. When I visited Alabama and talked with him for about an hour, I couldn’t even believe it. I know he could really make me into a great safety. The tradition at Alabama is about as good as it gets and they are going to be competing for National Championships soon. They almost did last year. I think I could fit into their style of defense real good too.”
Georgia: “I really like the way Coach Mark Richt puts family first. He is a coach that cares about his players and that stands out to me about him and Georgia. I also like that Athens is close to my family in South Carolina because that will allow them to see me play. Coach Martinez is a good secondary coach too and I know he could get the most out of me.”
It is down to those two SEC powers and one will get a verbal commitment from The Hitman on Saturday? Who will it be? We will all know in a short amount of time.
