Tommy Z Makes His Decision

The wait is over. All-American Tommy Zbikowski has made his college decision and he knows which position he'll be playing when he enters fall camp.

"Well, Tommy caved last night," said Ed Zbikowski, the father of All-American Tommy Zbikowski.

"Tommy told coach Willingham last night that he wanted to play for him, so that's that.

"Coach Willingham told Tommy he's going to start out as a cornerback and they'll see what happens from there.

"This (commitment) is a big weight off of our shoulders. Everyone has been great during the process."

Zbikowski, a 6-foot, 185-pounder, from Buffalo Grove, Illinois is perhaps one of the best athletes ever to wear a football uniform in the state of Illinois.

Zbikowski reminds me of a couple of former Chicago prepstars that also played football for Notre Dame.

Zbikowski has the power and striking ability of Julian's George Streeter and the speed and grace of St. Laurence's Stan Smagala.

I should know, I played against both while at Joliet Catholic.

I'll go one better, Zbikowski is the best athlete (football) to come out of the state of Illinois since Eric Kumerow (Oak Park-River Forest) who went on to play for Ohio State and had a nice career in the NFL.

Greg Olsen and Tommy Zbikowski commit to Notre Dame in the same day. Irish Eyes are smiling in South Bend. Recommended Stories
