Minnesota Prospect Commits

John Shevlin

Apple Valley's John Shevlin talks about his verbal commitment. He'll stay home and play for the Golden Gophers.

"I gave Minnesota my verbal commitment," said athlete John Shevlin.

"The reason I picked Minnesota was because it's close to home and the program is on the rise in my opinion.

"Another big reason for my commitment was (Minnesota) defensive coordinator Greg Hutchins. I felt comfortable with him and that meant a lot in the end."

Shevlin, a 6-foot-1, 200-pounder, from Apple Valley (Minn.) Eastview is a three-year varsity starter that was named all-state in 2002.

Shevlin chose Minnesota over Northwestern, Nebraska and San Jose State
