Poway (Calif.) safety Brett Thomas is one of San Diego’s top two-sport players, and the recruiting interest has been coming strong for the diamond and the gridiron.
“Recruiting has been good,” said Thomas. “I’m being recruited for both baseball and football. I’ve been getting a lot of calls and there is a lot of information to be shared with.”
Thomas has offers for football from Indiana, Air Force, UC Davis and San Diego State and baseball offers from UCLA and Oregon.
Which sport he’ll play, though, still remains to be seen, and he could end up playing both.
“If I get a good football scholarship, I might think about it, but if I get a good opportunity in baseball, I might just play that,” said Thomas. “It really depends on if I get a good opportunity, with the academics fitting me as well, to do both. But I’d love to do it.”
Thomas said his passion for both sports is strong so he can’t really name a sport he favors over the other.
And he’s done well in both, earning all-state underclass honors in football by GoldenStatePreps.com and then playing for the Milwaukee Brewers during the Area Code Games and also for an Angels Elite Baseball team.
At 6-0, 190, Thomas roams the secondary for Poway, and had 60 tackles and five interceptions a year ago, adding six touchdowns as a receiver and a couple more returning punts and kicks.
Academically, he’s in top shape as well, with a 3.8 GPA and a 1760 SAT score.
Poway opens their 2009 season against San Diego Scripps Ranch and their schedule also features Chula Vista Eastlake, Vista and Santa Margarita.
