Defensive end
Chris Martin
may have moved from one coast to another, but that doesn’t matter much as he will now be the No. 1 prospect in the East. Yes, Martin a Notre Dame commit is that good. Martin beat out McKees Rocks (Pa.) Sto-Rox quarterback
Paul Jones
for the top spot in the East 100. Jones has one of the strongest arms we have seen and he has amazing upside. Some may consider Jones to be raw and he is, but you cannot ignore the tools that he brings to the table.
Making up the remainder of the top five are Paterson (N.J.) Paterson Catholic defensive end
T.J. Clemmings
, Philadelphia (Pa.) George Washington defensive tackle
Sharrif Floyd
and Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar F. Smith quarterback
Phillip Sims
.
More than half of the players in the East 100 are already committed to schools. So roughly, 60% of the top players in the region have pledged to a school before they played their first game of their senior seasons.
Penn State leads the way with 13 commitments in the top 100. Pittsburgh is second with 10 commitments. Virginia Tech comes in with six, followed by West Virginia at three commitments.
Fifteen of the top 25 players in the East are defensive players, while ten are offensive players. There are five defensive ends in the top 25. Washington (D.C.) Dunbar outside linebacker
Javarie Johnson
and York (Pa.) Central defensive end
Kyle Baublitz
, both made jumps up into the top 30. Offensively, Bethlehem (Pa.) Liberty quarterback
Anthony Gonzalez
, Annandale (N.J.) North Hunterdon Regional tight end
Kevin Haplea
and Petersburg (Va.) offensive tackle
Quinton Spain
were the big movers into the top 30.
