Santa Clara (Calif.) Wilcox linebacker/fullback Anthony Pohahau is ready to make his mark with a big senior season...

Santa Clara (Calif.) Wilcox linebacker Anthony Pohahau (5-11, 235), was one of the busiest campers out West this year.

Getting his name out there, Pohahau is ready to return to the field and hope that a strong start to his senior season will present the offers that have so far eluded him.

“It’s been kind of quiet right now,” said Pohahau. “I got a couple phone calls here and there, but it’s mainly been me trying to promote myself. A lot of attention came from me going to camps. But that’s how far it’s gotten.”

Pohahau camped at Cal twice, San Jose State, San Diego State, Sacramento State and USC.

“I went to USC to their Rising Stars Camp and then Pat Ruel said he’d be coming to our game,” Pohahau said. “Then Cal told me they would be coming to our games too. Most schools said they were going to come watch games this year.”

A Bay Area native, Pohahau said the Bears are a team he’d love to play for.

“I like Cal a lot,” said Pohahau. “They’re high on my list if I were to chose. But right now I’m open to anywhere.”

Pohahau attended both the contact camp at Cal and the Bears’ 1-Day Camp, just a couple of the numerous camps, which also included two Scout.com Combines in Los Angeles and San Francisco and the Stanford Nike Camp.

“A lot of the camps, I worked both as an inside linebacker and as a fullback because a lot of schools are looking at me for both,” said Pohahau.

Pohahau said his heart is at linebacker, where he plays inside for Wilcox, but that he’s open to playing fullback if that’s where college’s see his future fitting him best.

He’s taken some unofficial visits to the local schools but anticipates taking some official visits in the fall.

Pohahau and his Wilcox teammates begin their fall practice on Monday and have a rematch scheduled with Menlo-Atherton, who ended their season a year ago.

Academically, Pohahau is in fine shape, with a 3.5 core GPA and three AP classes.
