Tony Grimes is a talented cornerback prospect from Hollywood Hills High and Scout caught up with him…
Tony Grimes, the 6-foot, 173-pound four-star cornerback from Hollywood Hills High School in Hollywood, Fla., now says the biggest college decision-making factor will be his friend and teammate (one-star defensive end) Clarence Murphy. "We're definitely going to college together," Grimes said. "We've been playing since we were freshman and it was our dream to play together in college and we want to make that come true." Although Murphy isn't as highly recruited as Grimes, he does have offers from Maryland, Colorado State, Florida International, South Florida, UCF and Wisconsin. "The main schools we're both looking at are Michigan, Ole Miss and Wisconsin," he said. "Wisconsin hasn't offered me yet, but I don't think they thought I'd consider them. I think they'll offer me. "And Clarence is hearing from Michigan and Ole Miss too," Grimes said. "So we'll see what happens." Regardless, Grimes says they both plan on making their announcement on signing day. "I don't want to look back and regret nothing," he said. "I'm gonna let everything just sink in." Grimes, ranked as the No. 10 cornerback in the country by Scout.com, has scheduled an official visit to Michigan on Sept. 12 for the Notre Dame game. "But I'm gonna have to change it," he regretfully said. "It's not gonna work with my schedule." That would have been Grimes' first time in Ann Arbor. "I like Michigan because they are recovering from some bad years and are turning it around," he said. "I like the coaches. They are all from West Virginia and they were real successful there. "Plus I love the Michigan tradition and alumni support," he said. "The alumni network is amazing." Although Grimes denies a leader, he favors Michigan, Wisconsin, Ole Miss, Georgia, Alabama and Ohio State. Of those, only the Badgers haven't offered according to Grimes. He says that Ole Miss is recruiting him the hardest and he's excited about the Rebels outlook for 2009. "I don't think they'll lose a step," he said. "They'll be winning this year too. I like the program a lot and things are just getting better for them." Another SEC school on Grimes' list is Alabama. "I like the coaches," he said. "They are very hand-on and amazing. You know they're gonna make you a better player." Grimes attended the Tide camp earlier this summer. He also attended the Miami camp and although the ‘Canes had offered him, he says he's not being recruited by them anymore. "I don't feel like I'm a priority for Miami," he said. So besides playing with his friend Clarence, Grimes says the other main factor in his decision will be the coaches. "I want a school where they'll help me succeed and get to the next level," he said. Hollywood Hills High open their season on Aug. 29 against Northeast Senior High School from St. Petersburgh, Fla. Grimes plans to major in business administration and reports a 2.8 core GPA. Previously Grimes said he took the ACT on June 13, but now denies taking the test.
