Chase Hughes, Scout.com three-star offensive center from Springville, Ala., is the second player from his school to commit to an SEC program. His teammate, Jeremy Richardson, committed to Auburn in June.
“I have been praying about it," said
Chase Hughes
. "I wanted to go down there in person and talk to them this past weekend. I wasn’t able to go down there because we had practice. I decided to call them instead."
“I called the coaches about 6:30 p.m. I talked to Coach Markuson. I started talking to him about their game. I was congratulating him. I said we wanted to come down to see them. I said I wanted to be a Rebel. He was like, 'Oh man are you serious? That’s real awesome.' He said he would try to call me this week when he around coach Nutt so I could talk to him."
Hughes talked about the major reasons for committing to
Ole Miss
.
"God was really my main reason," he said. "They [Ole Miss] weren’t recruiting me, and I went to their camp when I went to Mississippi. Coach Markuson liked what he saw. I have been praying about it since then."
"It’s a great coaching staff and an amazing place. It’s not far from home. I like everything about it."
“They want me to come in and play center. It feels great to be committed. I decided about middle of last week. Ever since then I have been on cloud nine. I honestly can’t wait to get there."
“I talk to coach Markuson about once or twice a week. We have a real good relationship. I know coach Price from when he was at
Auburn
. He was the one who started recruiting me."
"We have talked to coach Nutt a couple of times. Their strength coach, coach Decker, is what I want to be like in life. He leads a ministry through the weight room. They are amazing coaches.”
When asked about the possibility of graduating early from high school Hughes replied, “I can graduate early, but I am not sure if I am going to or not yet. They told me that it was my decision."
Springville is undefeated for the season with back-to-back gut-wrenching performances.
“We are 2-0 right now,” Hughes said. “We beat Walker 14-6. We played Pleasant Grove and won 40-39. They were on the 20-yard line, and we stopped them on a fourth-and-two."
"We play Curry this week. They look fairly good. They run the Wing-T. Nobody runs it anymore. They are a team that shouldn’t be under-estimated. I have been playing pretty good, but always room for improvement. I have about 10 tackles on the season."
