Focus 2011: Simmons Has Upside
Indianapolis Pike has a new weapon this year, making an already dangerous Red Devils offense even more of a threat. In recent weeks, with star wide receiver Dyjuan Lewis out with injury, junior tight end Tim Simmons has become even more important. The 6'5, 240-lb Simmons has played basketball for the last few seasons, but decided to go back out for football this summer and his highly recruited teammate helped him out. "I go to school with Dyjuan and we work out together. I went to a few camps with him and killed all the other tight ends." Simmons is not short on confidence, but Pike head coach Derek Moyers has seen the talent he has to back it up. "He is also a basketball prospect as well. This is the first year he has played football since the 8th grade," Moyers explained, " However, he does have tremendous upside." The colleges who have noticed that include Cincinnati, who he camped with and ran a 4.7 forty on their campus. Simmons also camped at Ohio State, Purdue and is receiving interest from a number of other programs. "I have a lot of other schools still looking too, Michigan State, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa sends me a lot of stuff right now, Cincinnati, Minnesota, Miami-Ohio, Toledo and I'm also interested in Oklahoma State, North Carolina, Missouri, Michigan and Illinois." While he does not currently have any offers, Simmons feels he is close and says several of those schools have told him they are interested in extending an offer, knowing that his best days are still in front of him. Moyers said, "As he becomes more comfortable with his position, tight end, and all that goes with being a physical player, he will be able to help out a college."
