Scouting the Red Carpet Bowl
Posted Sep 15, 2009

The Red Carpet Bowl has become one of the most anticipated events of the Mississippi High School football season. Several division one signees have played in the game and the number of college bound participants grew by leaps and bounds this year as Ocean Springs and Gulfport visited Vicksburg. Road Report
Travis Dickson Ocean Springs HS (MS) DE/TE #41
C/O 2010
Scout's Take: There is a lot to like about Travis. He plays the game with a lot of passion and he takes pride in beating the man across from him. He is certainly the emotional leader of his team. They all look to him to see how to react and he sets a good example by going hard every play. He has a real blue collar appeal to him. He may not be the prototype at tight end or defensive end, but he is certainly explosive.
Allen Howze Ocean Springs HS (MS) RB / #20
C/O 2010
Scout's Take: Allen is a work horse rather than a race horse. He is not the type of runner that is going to take over a game with his speed, but he will put the game away with his strength. Allen is strongest between the tackles. He likes making contact and he makes a habit of falling forward once the pla is over. I could see him making the move to linebacker on the next level.
Sam Noblin Ocean Springs HS (MS) QB/S #10
C/O 2010
Scout's Take: Sam has really prepared for his senior season and it shows. He has packed on about 15 pounds of good weight. He looks faster and stronger this year. His arm strength is better and he is much tougher to bring down than in years past. He does a very good job of getting the ball in the hands of his playmakers and he does a real good job reading the defensive end on the zone read.
Wade Wells Ocean Springs HS (MS) LB / #11
C/O 2010
Scout's Take: Wade is one who is flying a bit under the radar. He is a very violent player who looks to make the big hit. He plays more of a rush end position from a two point stance, but he has no trouble dropping back into coverage when necssary. He really pursues the ball well.
Dwayne CherryOcean Springs HS (MS) RB / #12
C/O 2011
Scout's Take: Dwayne is developing into a very good player. He has a very nice burst once he breaks containment and he is finishing runs better this year. He still has a year to really grow, but he will be one on the radar. He might even get some looks as a defensive back.
Joseph Morrow Ocean Springs HS (MS) WR / #15
C/O 2011
Scout's Take: Joe is not going to put up huge numbers because of the offense he plays in, but make no mistake he can play. I really like Morrow's long term potential. He has a very good hands and he plays real well without the ball. The fact that he already understands that he has a role to play even when the play is not designed for him puts him ahead of some of his peers that may have better stats.
Derrick Lattimore Gulfport HS (MS) QB #10
C/O 2010
Scout's Take: Derrick is an interesting prospect. He has a bit of an awkward throwing motion, but he is still very effective with it. I believe Derrick is best suited for a spread system where he can make plays in the running game as well as through the air. He never backs down from contact and he looks to earn every inch he can to move the chains. Great leader.
Cortez Hartzog Gulfport HS (MS) DT #97
C/O 2011
Scout's Take: Cortez is an exciting player to watch. Like most big guys he could use some conditioning, but he really uses his size well in the trenches. He gets off blocks well and has a nice burst off the line. He has another year to work, but I expect Cortez to find himself in demand of he takes care of business on and off the field.
Tim Jones Warren Central HS (MS) RB #20
C/O 2010
Scout's Take: Tim runs hard. Even when it seems the game is lost, Jones is still plowing ahead for all he can get. He is not the fastest or the flashiest, but he is a very good football player. He has a low center of gravity and he knows how to earn extra yards after first contact.
