JCSpotlight - A tackling machine

Santa Ana, Calif. - He might not have made every tackle on Saturday; it just seemed so. San Diego's freshman linebacker Josh Fely was literally all over the field against Santa Ana.

While Santa Ana beat San Diego Mesa handily on Saturday, it wasn't for the lack of effort by Mesa's freshman middle linebacker Josh Fely (6-0/215). Fely

Fely is a true sideline to sideline and beyond middle linebacker. I say beyond, because he wasn't just making plays laterally for the Olympians, he was making plays vertically. It was as common site to see Fely in the offensive backfield making a tackle for loss as it was to see him track down a receiver.

Fely finished the game with 15 tackles. During one play in the fourth quarter, Fely was slow to get up after making a tackle. His play had taken him towards the Santa Ana sideline, and he had earned such respect from his opponent that several of the Santa Ana players began to chant his name to encourage him to get up.

Sometimes there can be little to take away from a 44-13 loss, but Fely earned the respect of his opponent and opened the eyes of at least one football Scout.
