Scouting Report: DE Uchenna Nwabuike
Profile: DE Uchenna Nwabuike High School: Hightower (TX) High School Height: 6'2 Weight: 215 Committed: SMU SCOUTING REPORT Uchenna Nwabuike is an undersized (projected) defensive end that plays defensive tackle (junior film) for his high school team. It is for those reasons, Nwabuike is under-recruited. If Nwabuike was a few inches taller and a couple pounds heavier, he would be a nationally recruited prospect. He has an extremely explosive first step. He is into the offensive lineman almost immediately after the snap. That quick first step keeps him in his gap and in the back field. His change on direction is sudden. He sniffs out screens and gets back to the LOS without wasted steps. He is also instinctive; sniffing out traps, draws, and screens comes natural to him. He displays good lateral movement. He doesn't get caught up in the mix and can pursuit backside really well. He is a high motor player. He get up field in a hurry and attacks the QBs hand forcing fumbles. He is a heady defender that stays in the backfield. He can tighten up his hand to hand disengaging technique. He disengages blocks well because wins the leverage battle with his speed, however, when he is not winning the leverage battle, he doesn't fight off the block nearly as well as when he is winning the leverage battle. He must really work on his overall strength because he is undersized. When he is fully engaged, offensive lineman easily wide him down the line. Again, adding to his need to work on his hand to hand disengaging skills. His biggest asset is his speed. He moves like a skilled guy but he must get strong like a big guy. A redshirt year will be needed for his development and then he will be ready to be a pass rush specialist. I can also envision him moving to OLB in some situations.
